Screening of Some Ethiopian Wheat Lines Against Stem Rust Races at Seedling Stage

In Ethiopia, stem rust caused by Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici (Pgt) is one of the most serious wheat diseases. On vulnerable cultivars, it has ability to cause yield losses up 100%. The infection responses forty-two lines at seedling stage against eleven isolates race TTKSK (Ug99 race), TTRTF, TKTTF (Digalu JRCQC, TKKTF, TRTTF, TTTTF, TTKTF, TTKTT, RRTTF, and TKPTF were evaluated in a study. Wheat experimentally infected with urediniospores races under controlled conditions Ambo Plant Protection Research Center 2021. Against Pgt that examined, different resistance seen. Thirteen lines, WL-1, WL-4, WL-21, WL-35, WL-37, WL-38, WL-41, WL-43, WL-45, WL-48, WL-49, WL-61, WL-64, had low types all races, whereas six WL-26, WL-31, WL-33, WL-47, WL-51, WL-66, resistant discovered this study can be exploited as source genes for breeding program.
